Pine Springs

Pine Springs was a town on the east fork of Triplett Creek, nine miles northeast of Morehead.

In 1879-80, the population was 50, by 1883-84 the population had rose to 150.


Like a lot of communities at this time, the majority of the residents were farmers

The town had several stores including E. Sadler’s General Store and Daniel G. Ham’s General Store, a shingle factory, and two churches – Reformed Christian and Methodist, whose minister was from England, Aaron Colledge. Pine Springs also had a doctor – Buford Burnett.


The community also had a blacksmith shop owned by Thomas Ham, Caudill’s Flour Mill, Fielding and Dan Hamm water powered grist mill and sawmill, and there was a post office.


The Pine Springs post office was established on June 29, 1869 by storekeeper Lewis B. Heflin.

Fielding B. Ham was appointed Postmaster in November 1876 and he later established the Triplett post office. Ham was also a deputy clerk of the county. Other Postmasters were Daniel Clark (1892), Wyman Blanton took over in 1895, followed by James Henderson. The post office was discontinued on September 1, 1895 and mail sent to Munson.
