The Ramey post office was established by John Ramey on October 1, 1901, a quarter mile up Three Lick. Then it closed, it was located 1 ¼ miles up Bluebank Road just North of I-64 and 2 miles southeast of original location. The population served was 500.
The post office was moved 7 ½ miles west on July 31, 1908. It was moved again 1 3/8 miles northeast on November 18, 1909. Postmasters-John Ramey- September 10, 1901, William Prater -December 29, 1903, Clara Prater –March 11, 1907, Hattie A Harrett - July 31, 1908, Charles Clay - November 18, 1909 –resigned May 13, 1932 The Post Office was discontinued June 22, 1932 and the mail sent to Farmers.
Several Ramey families were listed in the census records such as John Ramey who opened a store in the Farmers area in 1902, and Alvin Ramey and wife Rachel lived with James Brain and his family. At least two Ramey’s were relocated after burial to the New Alfrey Cemetery for the construction of Cave Run Lake -J.A. Ramey (1848-1935) who was buried in the McKenzie Cemetery and Richard Ramey (1860-1939) who was buried in the Ramey Cemetery.
