Consideration of Conditional Use Permit Ordinance
The Rowan County Fiscal Court has elected to retain the services of Pike Legal Group, LLC., to explore our options in implementing a conditional use permitting ordinance (CUPO) for new industrial and commercial businesses locating to Rowan County. As you are aware, our county is currently experiencing a massive boom in commerce and industry. In order to ensure that this growth continues and that the interests of Rowan Countians are protected, this is an important step that we must take.
We want to make clear that this ordinance will not affect existing businesses. It will have no effect on developments within the City of Morehead or Lakeview Heights. It will have no effect on existing single family/duplex residential uses, nor the use of agricultural lands. The intent is that the CUPO would produce development outcomes more in the health, safety, and general welfare interests of Rowan County than the current unregulated environment, while encouraging quality development and economic growth.
This innovative approach would allow us to protect and pursue community interests and objectives without unnecessarily interfering with the freedoms of property owners. We welcome anyone who has questions to come and see us.
