A Living History of the Vietnam War: Presented by the Rowan Co Veterans Foundation
The Rowan County Veterans Foundation will be hosting a new event in our community this September: A Living History of the Vietnam War. They will have a USO show at the Battson-Oates Commons at 7 PM- 10 PM on Friday, September 15th (preshow at 6 PM), and living history displays on September 16th from 9 AM- 5 PM.
Their goal is to pay tribute to the Vietnam veterans and those wonderful entertainers of the USO by performing a USO show such as were attended by thousands of soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen in Vietnam. The USO Show will be interspersed with recitation of actual Public Service Announcements (PSAs) such as were heard on the Armed Forces Radio Network in Vietnam (AFVN). Although civilians with no military experience may not fully understand some of the Public Service Announcements, those with military experience, especially those Vietnam Veterans, will understand them. They hope this will spark conversation and increase public awareness and understanding of the era. Further, they will provide an educational living history of the Vietnam War through interactive displays and being able to talk to Vietnam Veterans and historians.
While visiting their event, they also encourage folks to attend the Rowan County Arts and Crafts Festival on September 16, between the hours of 11 am to 4pm on Main Street.
The Rowan County Arts Center's annual Morehead Arts & Crafts Festival, formerly known as Arts & Eats, will be held on Saturday, September 16, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Main Street! Shop local and regional arts & crafts, enjoy food & creative snacks, unique beverages and more! Children's activities will be on the Arts Center's lawn along with a Living History: Vietnam Era event presented by the Rowan County Veterans Foundation.
