First Phase of Morehead Turtle Walk Complete
A new opportunity is here for everyone in the area to enjoy public art and for business to attract visitors to their location: the Morehead Kentucky Turtle Walk! In 1778, Daniel Boone was adopted into the Shawnee tribe and given the name Sheltowee, or Big Turtle, by Chief Blackfish. That name may sound familiar as the Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail spans the Daniel Boone National Forest and runs along Main Street right here in Morehead, Kentucky. If you follow the Sheltowee, you see a striking logo, a turtle. In the spirit of the turtle, statues have been placed around our community. Businesses, individuals, and government/non-profit groups were given the opportunity to sponsor a turtle statue to be placed on their property as an official "Morehead KY Turtle Walk" destination. Check out the turtles today!
Missed your chance to get a turtle? Phase 2 will open soon, allowing more sponsors and artists to get involved with the project. For more information call Morehead-Rowan County Tourism at 606-783-9857.
