Rowan County Creating Bluewater Trail for Kayaking, Canoeing, and Tubing

Tourism and recreation are important to our community, and we're excited to announce our preliminary plans for creating a Bluewater Trail along the north fork of Tripplett Creek for kayaking, canoeing, and tubing. This is a big win for having things to do in our own town, and it's a great weekend getaway idea for anyone who wants to visit.

Not only does this trail create the opportunity to enjoy our area's waterways, but there are also so many opportunities to see wildlife. Nature sighting opportunities include abundant wildflowers, Catawba rhododendrons, eastern hemlock, various birds, wood ducks, turkey, deer, muskrat, turtles, and various species of fish. Additional research suggests that the licking river and its tributaries also contain various species of freshwater mussels. There are educational tools that Fish and Wildlife can help us with.

There are four proposed access points: Bluestone Road, Cimmaron Road, KY 801, and Bullfork Road. They are marked in the map to your right.

There is still work to be done, but we're hoping to finish the project within the next year and have it ready to kayak along by the Spring of '23. This will be a great tourism opportunity as well as a good way to appreciate our county's natural beauty.
